Who Are We?
We represent you.
A constituted non-profit mountain biking representative
TokaiMTB has been active in a voluntary capacity since the official introduction of mountain biking on this mountain in 1995, finally laying down roots in an official capacity as representatives of this sport within the Table Mountain National Park in 2014.
Our vision is to provide for the mountain biking needs of the Cape Town public and position Tokai as the premier local, national and international destination by developing and maintaining a sensitive and sustainable network of mountain bike trails in the middle of a world heritage site, suited to all people and all abilities.
TokaiMTB is in possession of a SANParks permit to upgrade and maintain mountain bike trails within the Table Mountain National Park, as well as host monthly community volunteer programmes in Tokai. Beyond the boundaries of Tokai, set up as the only non-profit cycling representative group in the Park and one of the founding members of the Table Mountain Mountain Bike forum, we are mandated to assist SANParks with mountain bike activity management to help provide the recreational users with a safe and well-managed mountain bike experience.
TokaiMTB lead the rehabilitation of the trails after the devastating fires of 2015, a closure that would see the area out of bounds to the public for two years. As things seem to work, had we not adopted an official capacity in 2014, we might not have had the negotiating power to facilitate the temporary opening in partnership with SANParks in Dec 2016; a full year before the official opening at the end of 2017.
Our plan is to continue expanding into other areas where SANParks requires assistance; our motto of a good working relationship, is vital to the well-being of both the environment and user recreational needs.
